Chatroom Downtime Monday 30th of August August 29, 2010
Hello all.

Tomorrow, Monday 30th, the chat room will be unavailable from 2PM (GMT +1 time -- this should translate roughly to 8AM east coast time) due to maintenance and upgrades on the chat network. The duration of the maintenance is estimated to about two hours, but may be longer if the need arises - those who are compulsive, like myself, may head over to http://www.sorcery.net for updates, if you get impatient.

I will include some details for those of you who may not be familiar with how our chat room works (and where on the internet it resides): we do not operate our own server for chatting on. We have set up a chat room on the SorceryNet network, which is one of many IRC (or Internet Relay Chat) networks.

So. In plain text - the good people over at SorceryNet are pushing some major updates to their servers (which all in turn means added functionality and better service to those of us who use the chat).

Here's the statement from JC, as received by chat users earlier today:

Hi Folks, this is just a quick notice to let you all know that tomorrow Afternoon (2pm GMT +1) SorceryNet will be undergoing a large upgrade, we're moving on to our new services and we're going to be starting to offer some of our new services.

That is all. Happy chatting.

Site Problems April 30, 2010
We are currently experiencing some hiccups with our DNS setup.

Some users may experience that they cannot access the site or the forum, being sent to various advertisement sites with nonsensical content (the "backpack woman" is one we've seen), but it is a random, inconsistent problem. Some people get sent to these advertising sites, others get through to Hidden Realms.

The problem was a hiccup with our domain name, which is supposedly fixed now but it may take some time for the update to reach everyone. I have been told that everything will be normal again most likely within a day, but for some it may take as much as two or three days. We apologize for this inconvenience.

The chatroom (#hiddenrealms is the channel) is available to everyone. If you know someone who is having trouble reaching the website, direct them to the chatroom for live updates and possibly some advice in attempting to hotfixing the error locally.

UPDATE: I have seen very strong indications that the issue should now be under control, and the updated DNS information is spreading throughout the system as we speak. This means that access is back to normal for most by now--for those who don't yet have access, it ought to return very soon.

Hidden Realms and Spam February 07, 2010
Hello, loyal readers and community members.

Today's announcement isn't especially jolly, but it is necessary.

We are doing our best to prevent spambots and remove those who do get through, but it seems that the name of our community is still being dragged into the proverbial mud. I have been alerted that emails have been going out to some of the members, saying that they have a new message. And the content of the message turned out to be spam, or worse than that.

Please note that this is not spam that is generated by Hidden Realms - the spam, if you are getting any, is generated by automated scripts that register on our site, masquerading as real members, only then to send loads of spam to people.

If you are having this problem, or had it in the past, please read this link for information regarding Hidden Realms and this problem.

Click here if you are curious as to what a spambot is.

You should actually read it regardless, so you are aware of the situation in case anything else pops up. The situation is being taken care of as we speak and should be under control, but it would still be wise of you to be alert of the possibility that future incidents like this could happen.

Thank you.
